The Dabous giraffes and open-air preservation
The most famous surviving artwork from Niger’s Green Sahara is the pair of giant giraffe engravings at Dabous, north-east of Agadez. Carved directly into sandstone, the larger giraffe measures roughly life size and is regarded as one of the largest known animal petroglyphs in the world.
