Introduction

Malaysia’s medical museums are unusual because they preserve bodies, organs and disease specimens for teaching and scientific research rather than spectacle. Unlike commercial “oddity” attractions, these collections grew out of universities and government laboratories where doctors, pathologists and researchers learned to recognise disease, understand anatomy and investigate public health problems. Universiti Malaya’s anatomy and pathology museum

Malaysia’s largest university medical collection has developed over several decades inside the Faculty of Medicine at Universiti Malaya.

Its origins lie in two specialist teaching museums: an Anatomy Museum established in 1964 and a Pathology Museum created in 1968.
